North Warwickshire and Bedworth MP, Craig Tracey has welcomed the Government’s announcement of £263 million allocated to local authorities across the country, including Nuneaton and Bedworth and North Warwickshire Borough Councils – providing vital funding to give them more control and flexibility in managing homelessness pressures and supporting those who are at risk of homelessness. This is an increase in overall funding for homelessness of £23 million on the previous financial year.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is set to receive £256,936 and North Warwickshire Borough Council £131,235 for 2020/21 to tackle the issue. The Government’s aim is to provide rough sleepers with the specialist support they need to get off the streets for good and enable the two borough councils to do more to prevent and relieve homelessness.
This funding ensures local authorities are resourced to act to prevent homelessness from occurring and implement the Homelessness Reduction Act. It is provided upfront and can be used flexibly so the local authorities can target their homeless reduction strategy to meet the specific needs of local people.

“I am delighted that the Government has made further funding available to tackle this issue and that we have committed to eliminating rough sleeping in the term of this parliament. We want to ensure people never have to face even one night on the streets.
This welcome funding will provide vulnerable people in North Warwickshire and Bedworth with the support they need to get off the streets for good. Rough sleepers may be dealing with complex mental health problems or addictions and require specialist support to tackle these issues and turn their lives around. This new funding will ensure that this help is available to those who need it.”
