The Belfry Hotel in North Warwickshire played host to this years Bet Fred British Masters which saw some on the Worlds top golfers compete over 4 days on the historic Brabazon course.
The event had a thrilling climax, when 48 year old veteran English golfer Richard Bland secured his first European Tour victory at his 478th attempt, holding off challenges from a host of players including Nuneaton’s Andy Sullivan who finished two shots back on 11 under par.
The tournament was cleared to take place as a test case for Government as relaxations for live sport continue to be introduced. Its’ successful running piloted a number of medical surveillance techniques and could clear the way for other outdoor events to receive the green light this summer following this blueprint.
North Warwickshire and Bedworth MP, Craig Tracey, who was on hand to witness the final days play and help hand over the trophy said
“It was fantastic to see tournament golf back here and for the players to get a reminder of what a special place this is. The feedback I got from them and the organisers has been incredible - this is an amazing facility which we are very lucky to have in the constituency. There has been a lot of work done between The Belfry, the European Tour, Government and myself over the last few months to make sure this could happen. Its the first golf event on our shores this year and it was so impressive to see that professionalism that went into it from everyone concerned to ensure it could be staged safely - its quite a logistical feat. It was important that it ran well, because we definitely want to see events back here next year, but this time with the buzz of a full compliment of spectators”
Chief Executive of the European Tour, Keith Pelley added
