As Chair of the All Party parliamentary Group on Breast Cancer, the local MP recently sponsored a Parliamentary reception hosted by Macmillan Cancer Support to discuss their Save Our Support initiative, a campaign to ensure that the country has a fully funded and sustainable cancer workforce in order to support the millions of people living with cancer across the UK.
The NHS is currently facing a shortage of nurses and, in answer to a question Craig asked in parliament recently, the Prime Minister committed to providing 50,000 more nurses for the NHS.
Through his work with breast cancer patients, Craig recognises how important the support provided by cancer nurses is, that is why he is backing Macmillan’s campaign to ensure that his constituents have access to the fantastic nurse specialists that will support them through a very difficult time in their lives.
Ensuring the NHS gets the new and fully trained cancer workforce that it needs is a priority for the Government and Craig looks forward to seeing these comprehensive plans within the NHS People Plan which will be published this year.
Craig commented:
“I want my constituents within North Warwickshire and Bedworth to get the support they need from local cancer services. This is why I will continue to work closely with local hospitals as well as Macmillan Cancer Support.”
